Sensational Self-Hypnosis Relaxation Deepener.

Deepening your Relaxation.


There are various reasons why you may want to deepen your relaxation meditation.

If you are very practiced at Self-Hypnosis, going into a relaxed state can be achieved very quickly, and sometimes too quickly.

Or you may not have enough time to use the full-length method to achieve Self-Hypnosis.

You may be finding it difficult to fall asleep and need something that will help you relax.

Sometimes, even though I have gone through the complete relaxation routine and have achieved Self-Hypnosis, I just want to enjoy going that little bit deeper.

The simple answer, is to give yourself an add on.

I learnt this wonderful way when I was studying for my Diploma in Clinical Hypnotherapy with Psychology.

I call it - Ten Steps to Tranquility.


My preference whilst using this deepener is to imagine an elevator but if you don't like enclosed spaces, then switch an elevator for stairs. It's the same principle and equally as effective.

Start by using the Basic Relaxation Technique, described in Get Slim Stay Slim – Permanently, when you have got to the part where you would normally add your weight reduction script, continue with the deepening relaxation routine this way ---



Elevator Method.





Imagine you are standing in-front of a elevator door, there is a button on the wall by the door, you press it and the door opens. You step inside and the door closes behind you. On the wall by the door is a panel of 10 buttons numbered 1 to 10, above the door is a floor level indicator also numbered 1 – 10.

You press the button numbered 1. Imagine a gentle sensation of moving downwards. You watch the floor level indicator move from zero to level 1.

Now press the button numbered 2. Feel the elevator descend and as it does, feel yourself letting go of your tension.

When the indicator reaches level 2, press the button numbered 3. With each level you go down, you feel even more relaxed than you did with the level before.

You have reached level 3, so now you press the button numbered 4, enjoying the journey downwards to the next level.

With each button you press and every level you reach you feel more and more relaxed than you did at the level before.

Now press button number 5, half-way to total relaxation.

You have reached level 5 so now you press button 6, and continue down further into your blissful state of peace and tranquility.

The indicator tells you, you have reached level 6. You feel so wonderfully relaxed as you press the button numbered 7.

Not far to go now. The indicator shows level 7. You press the button numbered 8. Down you go to level 8.

You press the button numbered 9. The level indicator moves slowly from level 8 to level 9 and finally you press the button numbered 10.

As you watch the indicator arm move from 9 to 10, You are now very relaxed as you reach level 10 and all your residual tensions have left your body.

The elevator door opens and you walk out into.........

It is up to you where you want to walk out into. Chose a place that you feel very comfortable with, the beach, a garden, a woodland or simply some place that you are familiar with - but a place where only you are. This is a place of tranquility, of peace, of total freedom from all your cares. Here you have total well-being. ****

At this point, you can repeat in your mind your weight reduction script but you don't have to always do that. You might want to think about letting your mind just wander peacefully where your imagination has taken you enjoying the feeling you get from Self-Hypnosis.



Stairs Method







The stairs method of deepening your relaxation is essentially the same principle as the elevator method.

When you have reached the end of your induction to Self-Hypnosis, you can either repeat your weight reduction script or you can imagine yourself standing at the top of a staircase.

You are standing at the top of a set of stairs, ten steps down is a doorway and behind the doorway a room. This room is the perfect place for you and your subconscious mind to relax in.

Decide whether the stairs are carpeted or not, if carpeted, choose your favourite colour. Imagine the wall next to the stairs and what it is covered with and the stair-rail. Maybe you have decided the stair rail is wooden, take time to let your hand rest on it.

Now, take the first step down, as you do so, say to yourself, first step down now, beginning to feel relaxed.

As you take each step say the number.

Second step down now, feeling more relaxed.

Third step down, with each step I take I am more relaxed than the step before.

Fourth step, toward total relaxation.

Fifth step, half-way down down.

Sixth step, almost there and feeling more and more tranquil.

Seventh step down, deeper and deeper than the step before.

Eight step, deeper still now.

Ninth step, feeling every part of me, completely at peace.

Now take that tenth step down. Walk toward the door and open it. Behind the door is whatever you want. ****

At this point, you can repeat in your mind your weight reduction script but you don't have to always do that. You might want to think about letting your mind just wander peacefully where your imagination has taken you enjoying the feeling you get from Self-Hypnosis.

So you have either opened the elevator door or you have opened the door to the room at the bottom of the stairs. The marvelous thing about using Self-Hypnosis is the only thing holding you back is your own imagination.

To help your imagination, I am going to give you two different scenes to choose from. However, there is nothing stopping you from creating your own scene – it is after all – your mind and you have complete control over it.


**** Scene One – The Beach through the Elevator door.





The elevator door has opened onto a long, almost white, sandy beach. Lined along the back of the beach are tall wide frond palm trees. Crashing up onto the soft sand are gentle waves from the deepest of blue seas.

You throw off your shoes and walk bared footed along the beach feeling the warm sand between your toes. The occasional surf rolls over your feet, it's cooling water fills you with a sense of relaxing pleasure. Half way along the beach you see a beach-chair over which is a wide sunshade that protects you from the heat of the bright yellow sun shining down from a lazy blue sky.

You sit down in the chair, it is so comfortable that your mind begins to drift with the rhythmic sound of the waves. You find yourself being lifted gently upwards to the sky. Cocooned by the soft clouds you float over the beach and across the sea, to a small island. Slowly the clouds lower you to a chair exactly the same as the chair on the beach. It's a magical place and as you relax in the chair you feel totally relaxed and at ease with yourself.

You laze for awhile and as you do so, just above your head a golden ball of light appears. All your cares, and all your troubles, are drawn upwards and into the ball of light. Slowly one by one, everything that worries you is taken into the golden ball. You lay back your head and watch the ball rise higher and higher into the sky, so far away from you, you can hardly see it. Suddenly there is a bright light that fills the sky, and you know all your troubles and care have been evaporated into nothingness.

Once again the clouds lift you up and take you back to the beach. As you sit in the beach-chair, you can if you want to, repeat your weight reduction script, and then count 1 – 5 to leave self-hypnosis, or you can count yourself out of self-hypnosis at this point.

  1. Beginning to wake up.
  2. Feeling more and more awake.
  3. Half-way to wakefulness.
  4. Almost awake now.
  5. And 5, fully awake and feeling alert and wonderful.


**** Scene Two - The Room at the bottom of the Stairs.





You have reached the bottom of the stairs, in-front of you is a door. You stop for a moment and examine the door and it's door-handle. Maybe the door is made of pine wood and the handle shiny brass, it is up to you.

You take hold of the door handle and open the door into the room, letting the door close behind you.

In the center of the room, is a chair, you cross to the chair and sit in it.. It is the most comfortable chair you have ever sat in. As you settle into the chair you feel a sense of complete relaxation and freedom what whatever troubles you beyond the door. This room is your own private space, where nothing and no one bothers you.

You push deeper into the chair, it seems to wrap itself around you in a warm blanket of peace and security.

You feel you could stay in this perfect place you have created for yourself forever, but you don't want to. You know that soon you will want to go back out into the world once more, rejuvenated and fully in-control of your life. However, for the moment you are just going to relax, nobody wanting anything from you and nothing you need to do.

As you enjoy this wonderful feeling of complete tranquility, above your head you see a golden ball of light appear. All your cares, and all your troubles, are drawn upwards and into the ball of light. Slowly one by one, everything that worries you is taken into the golden ball.

You lay back your head and watch the ball rise higher and higher and pass through the ceiling of the room. You watch as it is taken up far away into the darkest of midnight skies, suddenly when it is almost out of view, you see the ball of light burst into a million fragments and all your troubles and all your cares and thrown away into the forever gone regions of the Universe.

At this stage, if you want to you can now repeat your weight reduction script, or you came bring yourself out of Self-Hypnosis, by counting down from 1 – to 5.

  1. Beginning to wake.
  2. Feeling more and more awake.
  3. Half-way to wakefulness.
  4. Almost awake now.
  5. And 5, fully awake and feeling alert and wonderful.

"Selling Success to Your Subconscious" 

Have you every tried to change an undesired habit or attain an important goal, only to find subconscious resistance preventing you from success?

Weight reduction programs and smoking cessation programs alone represent a multi-billion dollar industry in the USA. Diets work on the body, but not on the mind. Many smokers’ new years’ resolutions literally go up in smoke! College students often procrastinate term papers until the last minute, and/or cram for the final exam the night before taking it. Professional sales people all over the land often find themselves failing to do the activities that are necessary to meet sales objectives. Numerous books describe ways of achieving goals: effective weight control programs, effective sales techniques, study habits, etc., yet people who read these books and /or attend classes and seminars still fail…why?

Answering this important question will enable your ability to sell motivation to the inner mind. The missing ingredient is subconscious cooperation, because the “inner child” in all of us is tuned into WII-FM. Those are the call letters for -

What’s In It For Me?”

Why Will Power often Fails

Any professional sales person will tell you that people buy a product or service because of the benefits that product or service will provide. Conversely, if we fail to recognize the benefits, most of us will not want to pay the price…and if the salesperson gets pushy, I am very quick to walk away. Most customers will do likewise if someone tries to force them to buy.

How does this relate to the subconscious? The answer is a simple metaphor: the conscious mind (decision maker) is the salesperson, and the subconscious is the customer – and this customer will normally resist a hard-sell from the conscious mind! In fact, many clients seeing me over the years have made dozens of attempts to reach the same goal through “will power” and other programs that have cost money, only to find the inner child rebels once again at the hard sell of the conscious mind. Failure to reach a goal at a conscious level doesn't always mean that we are weak. Rather, it may indicate a very powerful subconscious. Once that power is re-directed, the difference can be life-changing!

How can we accomplish using this power? We must persuade the subconscious to cooperate, otherwise we might run into resistance from the inner mind. We must use selling skills to persuade the inner child to pay the price of change in order to enjoy the benefits. I call this "Selling Success to Your Subconscious."

Most people attempting to achieve a goal simply try to cram the price into the subconscious and then wonder why they run into resistance. Price for a dieter is changing eating habits, which the inner child is unwilling to do. Price for a smoker is ignoring smoking urges, often caused by various triggers of habit (putting key in ignition, drinking a beverage, etc.). While we may know consciously what the benefits of a goal might be, unless those benefits are communicated to the inner child, the result is: NO SALE.

The Language of the Subconscious

Before any sales person can sell a product or service, he/she must speak the same language as the customer. The conscious mind is the seat of logic while the subconscious is reached by imagination and emotion. Whenever imagination and will power are in conflict, imagination will usually win. If I say, “Don’t think of a dog,” what did you imagine? Most people will immediately imagine seeing a dog, petting one, or hearing one bark. Yet the conscious instructions were to NOT think of one! The dieter who uses self-talk to avoid the cake or pie will normally fantasize the taste of it…and often indulge. Can you relate to this?

Now let’s apply the above to someone working on weight reduction. The subconscious resists giving up dessert, but will be comfortable (and happier) imagining the benefits of trying on an ideal size of clothes. So, in a sense, the conscious mind must sell success to the subconscious by using the language of the subconscious, which is imagination.

Emotion is Subconscious Power: the Energy of the Subconscious

Before proceeding any further, let’s overview another very important concept that I've used successfully with clients over the years... While imagination is the language of the subconscious, emotion is the motivating power of the mind! Emotion can either propel us to success, or hinder us from accomplishing even simple tasks…and the most powerful positive emotion is love.

Once you fall in love with the benefits of your goal, this action causes the effect of greater motivation to pay whatever price is necessary to achieve the desired goal. So the key to overcoming subconscious resistance lies in persuading the subconscious to buy the benefits of change. Before accomplishing this important step, you must identify your specific benefits.

Applying Imagination and Emotion

Here’s what to do: take out a sheet of paper and list the main benefits you will enjoy upon fulfillment of your desired goal. (Note: Your subconscious responds better when you choose your own benefits rather than simply accepting someone else's benefits.)

Get your imagination involved with the benefits of achieving your goal by fantasizing them during self-hypnosis. You should also fantasize ways of enjoying each benefit with as many of your five senses as possible. I call this process -

"Selling Success to Your Subconscious" (the title of this article). 

In a meditative state, imagine your benefits as vividly as possible, and fantasize how you feel emotionally about enjoying your benefits. In other words, imagine the attitude of gratitude!

By doing all of the above, you can marry two powerful methods of subconscious programming, self-hypnosis and emotion. Now you are ready to sell success to your subconscious.

I don't want to be Fat anymore!

I don't want to be Fat any more!

I don't want to be fat any more. How many times have you said this to yourself?

Too many?

Definitely not just once – but every time you lose weight and then you put it all, plus some more, back on again.

The new diet started so well – this time you were going to lose all your excess weight. You were finally going to fit into that pair of jeans you bought for the glorious day you lost your weight.

The day came and you stood on the scales and all your hard efforts had paid off - the new jeans fitted.

A week passes, maybe two. Time stretches into a month. You put on the jeans. They are too tight – but hey – you lost your weight before. You can do it again. And again. And again. And again.

For awhile you stop trying to lose weight, then something happens. An unexpected event makes you wish you had stuck to your diet, hadn't let the weight creep back on without you even realizing it.

How great it would have been, you chastise yourself, if you could have walked into the event wearing those gorgeous slim tight pants. Only you can't because you have put your weight back on.

Most of your clothes are too small – why?

Easy, you tell yourself that one day you will get down to your desired weight and stay there. You buy clothes ready for when this happens.......but it never does. And you are left with a whole load of clothes that are too small for you, and always will be.

Can you reduce your weight and keep that weight from coming back on again without the help of Self-Hypnosis?

Yes you can – but with great difficulty.

To succeed in weight reduction permanently, you have to recreate a whole new set of rules on how your subconscious mind thinks about your desire to get slim and stay that way.

If you don't change the rules you have given to your subconscious mind, then it won't co-operate with you in your desire to reduce your excess weight without it returning.

As I explain in my book Get Slim Stay Slim -Permanently, you are in a continued course of yo-yo dieting because somewhere along the way your subconscious mind has been given, by you, the idea that you are unhappy about dieting.

By using my methods of Self-Hypnosis, together with 
visualization and continued affirmations, you can connect to your subconscious mind, reprogram it to enjoy dieting, and get it to look forward to the process of an on-going 'keep your weight off' lifestyle.

The Demon Snack......get thee behind me.

The Demon Snack.



Is it possible to cure obesity?

Of course it is.

All we have to do is go into every supermarket in the country and take off the shelves all the useless, unnecessary, junk foods, snacks and edible rubbish that has no nutritional value and hey hoe – problem solved. You can't eat – what you can't buy.

Will it ever happen?

Not unless Big Brother takes over and forces people to stop eating snacks.

That said – there is a way. And it doesn't involve an authoritarian dictator to do it.

I am 62 years old and I am about to say something I promised myself I would never say – “When I was a girl things were very different.” There I've said it.

The truth is, things were different. At school there might have been the odd fat child – but that was all. The odd one. Not the one among many.

Basically we didn't snack and our mothers for the most part, produced, with basic ingredients, our meals from scratch.

'Don't eat between meals' was something said to us often. Sure, we did have crisps. One flavour - salted, plain potatoes chips and inside the bag a little blue bag of salt. If you didn't want salt – you didn't have to have it. Not like now where there is no choice, both salt AND sugar is added to enhance the flavour of our processed foods.

The snack industry was really invented when an innocuous bar of chocolate was advertised to us, as the 'snack you can eat between meals' opening the floodgates to a multi million pound way of companies making money and unintentionally creating today's obesity problem.

Next time you go into your supermarket, try this simple exercise. Count the rows dedicated to the selling of snack type foods, crisps, biscuits, cakes etc. I expect if you were to sit back in your chair now and close your eyes, you could visualise the abundance of these foods without the need to walk around your usual supermarket.

Okay – I hear you saying, that is all very well but life is different now. A large proportion of women have to got out to work and when they get home, tiredness and just simply not enough time to do all the things they have to do before they go to bed dosen't allow for large amounts of preparation and cooking.

I understand that.

Ready meals are convenient – but the portions often do not reflect apatite.

If you have had a satisfying meal there should be no need to 'top up' on snacks afterwards but if you are still hungry, then programe your subconscious mind away from fattening snacks to the more nutritious kind.

The trouble with fattening snacks – is – they appeal to your subconscious mind.

They are designed to entice us, by using our imaginations. Before we have even put them in our mouths our imagination is working out how they will taste.

Snacks are made to look mouthwateringly delicious.

Bright colours and cheerful looking packaging. And of course, the over used word – fun.

Your subconscious is bombarded with the idea that eating, whatever snack you are about to put in your mouth, will be fun.

There is no fun in dieting to get rid of the fat you accumulated. Thanks to having a 'fun' time, scoffing useless over sugared unnecessary snacks, a large proportion of people are experiencing the misery of restricted diets and rebound weight gain.

Visualisation, I believe it is one of the key factors in successful weight reduction – read again Chapter 7, to reinforce to your subconscious mind – that your own particular, weight reduction plan breaker, no longer features as important to you.

Forward Visualisation - see yourself in the future.


Forward Visualisation



For those of you who have read, Get Slim Stay Slim – Permanently then you already know just how useful a tool visualisation is to your continued success in weight reduction. For those of you who haven't read the book, I will try and as best as I can, to be as clear as I can about the technique.
 

Forward Visualisation, is a superb way to reinforce to your subconscious mind that you are going to stay on your weight reduction programme, until you have reached your desired goal weight.


Just in the same way you use ordinary visualisation to avoid eating the wrong foods, Forward Visualisation uses your imagination to project an image to your subconscious mind of how you will look in the future.


Forward Visualisation, is about creating in your minds eye a picture of yourself at a forward time. For this you will need to use the full relaxation method and not the Rapid Suggestion technique.


Before you begin, decide where in the future you to want to be. If you are at the beginning of your weight reduction plan, you may want to see yourself as you will be when you are about half-way through. If however, you are fairly far along the road to success, you may want to see how you will look when the last of your weight is discarded.



Forward Visualisation – the method.


Relax as you normally do - but when you get to the part of your meditation where you recite your usual weight reduction script, don't. It is here that you are going to visualise how you will look at a time forward from where you are now.


Imagine you are standing in-front of a full length mirror. See yourself as you are now from the top of your head all the way down to your feet. Inside your mind, turn yourself around and again see the back of yourself from the top of your head to your feet as you look now.

Take some time to do this. Really see yourself as you are at this particular moment.

Now, take a long look at yourself in that mirror and slowly begin to visualise how you will look at the future point in time you have chosen.


You may want to see yourself in a pair of trousers that are way too big for you. The bulges gone, no spare tyre of fat hanging over your pants.



Or in a bikini perhaps? Your tummy flat, and your body looking fantastic in the small 2 piece swimsuit.



Turn around and view yourself from head to toe seeing how you are going to look. Take your time over this, if you want to recite an affirmation, do so. Here's one you may want to try, or use your own words, in the way you want to.


This is how I am going to be.

Today and every day is a day closer to the new slimmer me.


Before you come out of your meditation repeat your usual script, one or twice to reinforce to your subconscious your determination to succeed.


Then when you are totally ready, come out of your relaxation in your usual way. Knowing you are going to succeed in reducing your weight – permanently.
